The Feast of Sant Roc begins each year with the parade called "Cu-cut on the donkey". Cu-cut, a plaçanovian "big-head" with a tradition that dates back to 1907, takes part in this parade with two versions of the character, the dwarf Cu-cut and the "big-head" Cu-cut. The latter does so riding a donkey, -as it has done since 1910-. They are accompanied by the other "big-heads" of the Plaça Nova and a musical band.
The parade usually runs through the Plaça Nova, the streets dels Arcs, Cucurulla, Portaferrissa, la Rambla, Cardenal Casañas, the squares of Pi and of sant Josep Oriol and the streets del Pi, Boters and la plaça Nova. When the parade ends, the Feast of Sant Roc is officially inaugurated with the Hoisting of the Heraldic Flag of Sant Roc by some outstanding personality of the neighborhood or district. The Heraldic Flag is the ensign of the neighborhood that was designed in 1906 by the resident Antoni de Paula Rigau. The Raising of the Heraldic Flag is the unique way to make the opening of the Feast of Sant Roc. The person chosen solemnly hoists the flag with the musical accompaniment of a fanfare of the Plaça Nova and then deliveres the inaugural speech.
