In 1884 another tradition of the Feast of Sant Roc began that has lasted to this day: the Panellets of Sant Roc. This well-known sweet with secret recipe became instituted in memory of the bread roll that, according to legend, the dog of the baker of the Plaça Nova would carry to the saint while he remained ill in our city.
The Panellets of Sant Roc have been made over the years by various bakers and confectioners in the neighborhood. The Panellets of Sant Roc are blessed in the service of the saint and are then tasted accompanied by a splash of wine from the Porró Llarg. The Panellets of Sant Roc can only be purchased during the days of the feast. On the day of Sant Roc they can be obtained free of charge after being blessed in the service of the saint in the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi.
